Falling Down

I was doing really well with my vow to finish Death By Cables before casting on anything new. I only made one bag and one baby blanket and started one pair of socks and the shrug part of the Retro Ribby Twinset. And none of those count, as I've explained repeatedly.

But I'm going down now, and I'm going down hard.

It's totally not my fault. The new Vogue Knitting came. This did not seem to pose a problem, since, as usual, I didn't like any of the designs.

And then I found this:

I like this. I like it a lot. I like it so much that it has jumped to the very front of the queue. Death By Cables? Who needs a cabled wool sweater in San Diego in April? So I immediately started shopping for yarn. And then I remembered this:

This is the gorgeous, hand-dyed, superwash merino from Sharon's shop, in the Sligo colorway (she just posted some BFL in this same colorway, and it's totally different and absolutely lovely). I love this yarn. It's soft and smooth and lightly variegated and it's green, which aside from being possibly my new favorite color is also the Project Spectrum color for April. I've just been waiting to cast it on until Death was finished. But, you know, if I use yarn from stash...

...it doesn't really count as a new project.

How pretty! Looks like just the ticket!

I have that sweater earmarked too. I'm actually tempted to frog my SKB which was knit in the suggested yarn and reclaim the yarn for this.

Oooooh! I like it!

Hmm...where's MY Vogue, anyway?!

Now that is seriously thumbing your nose at the KG! That sweater is so beautiful, though, that I suspect lots of knitters will be similarly tempted. Maybe if there are enough of them, the KG will be merciful and make it an exception to the rule?

an excellent plan for sharons works- Here's the thing- the KG is going to mess with you whether you follow your own self-imposed rules or not. you were only deluding yourself. Cast on and be happy!

Oh my...I had looked at that sweater too and thought "Hmmm, maybe...". But you slapping that yummy green yarn up here - wow! All of a sudden I'm all "gimme gimme GIMME!" You know what I think? I think you're an enabler. It's a good thing you don't live in Michigan, as your wiles are somewhat diminished by distance, but you're still dangerous.

I like that.

Interesting reasoning. You do refer to yourself as an enabler, don't you? :0)

Nice yarn!

Your reasoning gave me a good laugh:-)
Lovely yarn- lovely sweater- and I'm sure the cabled sweater will be done at some point:-)

I have to agree with you about the vogue issues but that sweater was my favorite too! So pretty! I think it would be lovely in that gorgeous green color. I say go for it since you won't be wearing death by cables now anyway!

It is beautiful, and makes me wish I were taller!!

And you are right. Who needs a heavy wool sweater in San Diego. Well, till next winter, when you're cold.

I wasn't even finished reading the post and had decided it wouldn't count if you used stash. And it's the color for project spectrum. You really have no choice. The KG would have to see that. 'Course they are a fickle bunch.

I think ti's a sign. Vogue Knitting arrived, the gorgeous sweater was in it, you have stash yarn in the Project Sprectrum color! It's direct communication from YG.! You'd be crazy not to cast on for that sweater! Death by Cables can wait.

I don't blame you one bit - that sweater is gorgeous.

Death by who?????

I like the way you think, pure unadulterated logic. :o)

Oh, that's pretty! I can see why you got a little bit distracted. Maybe if you hide it whenever you're not working on it, the knitting goddess won't ever know.

I got the new Vogue Knitting also! SO.HARD. MUST.FINISH.UFOS. I have got to make the Lace and Cable Top (#29) on p.87. I love it and I think the SeaSilk I have will get gauge. But then I can't wear it here unless I go somewhere highly air conditioned.

That's what I truly miss about San Diego. The fact that you can wear a sweater in the evening no matter the time of year (except during Santa Anas). But I couldn't live in suburbia with my sheep. Choices, choices, just like whether to start the gorgeous new top or to finish the linen neckline for the dress I am sewing.

I guess I need to get back to talking about knitting on my blog, huh? Between lamb births and ankle fractures, I've been distracted.

Thanks for your nice comment by the way. I tried to follow doctor's orders and now all the swelling that had gone down is back up again and I am more bruised than ever. B*stard.

Lovely green yarn - so springlike.

What a gorgeous project! And the choice of yarn is perfect, you know, you have to look at your WIPs in relation to the season, WIPs for fall and winter "stay" in that season, when spring comes, you start over at 0. Right? Right? Love the tank top, it looks so beautiful on you!
