It's shedding season around here. (Real photo of my real floor--an hour after vacuuming.)
I don't mind, though. I don't think of it as "shedding" so much as "free fiber".
And fiber is fiber (yes, that's dog yarn on the bobbin). Now if I could just figure out how to spin it directly off the dog...

Is that a Newfoundland? Does it spin up well? How's the staple length? You know, you could always mix it with some wool to add some elasticity. Would you like a little? It needs washing and carding. Charlotte black or Madeline charcoal?
Blogger just ate my comment! Bad blogger.
I am so impressed with your spinning. It is so pretty. I had a mental cartoon picture when you said you wished you could spin straight from the dog.
When I wound the singles onto an empty bobbin I was careful not to change the twist. I did not run it through the flyer, I just guided it with my hand. I was surprised at the difference it made in comparison to the singles that I didn't rewind. I think I got the idea from Spinning Spider Jenny last month.
Hey, why should you have it any better than the rest of us! It's gotten to wear I'm wearing my dogs all the time now. To touch them is to be full of hair. *sigh* They joys of owning animals.
At least you can spin yours. Mine have these little half inch hairs that just stick into everything. You'd be talented indeed if you could spin thouse.
The yarn is lovely but I want the dog! What a beauty! Newf, right? Oh she is gorgeous. I am a total sucker for big black dogs.
Of course, as I was walking up my stairs last night observing the bazillion fur clumps that my dog leaves, I did wonder if I could spin them up. If I knew how to spin. And had a wheel. And, you know, stuff like that. Maybe I'll just go to the yarn shop.
I love it! My mom made mitts for my son with yarn she had added dog hair to. They were super warm. I must have them around here somewhere.
Wow, those are huge canine tumbleweeds on your floor! Free Fiber!! Nice photo of the fiber source and the spun singles. I'm looking forward to when Stella "blows her coat." Apparently, I'll know it when it happens and I'll be able to spin her fur. You should start a Dog Fur Spinners group on ravelry (if there isn't one already). I'd join.
When life hands you dog fur, make chiengora, that's what I always say. Boo's not shedding properly yet. I wanted to blend some of him with Kioshi because her staple was too short to spin by itself. We've got a few bags. I always wanted to get more off of her, but didn't. Regret.
How about a Golden Chow? Retrieve Chow Mix that is. Her tail hair can be longer than 6 inches and I have tumble hair all over the house, except that mine is gold blond.
See? You DO have something for the Messy Tuesday posting!!!Don't be shy-
Poor puppy! I can't decide if she's looking guilty, or if it's just my imagination.
with my two dogs, i've got plenty of "free fiber." too bad i don't spin.
