The Last Laugh

I got an email from the bride today. The bride for whom I made Icarus as a wedding shawl. A wedding shawl that was intended as a gift for the bridal shower on October 27. The bridal shower whose scheduled date was the deadline that has had me knitting like a lunatic for the past month. Still with me?

So, today I got an email from the bride. Thanks for all your support...blah, blah, blah...black shoes...blah, blah, blah..."And before you all count on the party Oct. 27, I just heard today that it's now been changed to Dec. 1."

Yep.

I suppose I should be glad she hasn't called off the wedding. Funny, I'm having a hard time finding my sense of humor today, although my appreciation for irony seems to be working overtime.

I guess Icarus gets the last laugh after all.

Aaaaiiiieeeee!!!
Because I'm a knitter and can appreciate everything you went through to finish a challenging project on deadline, I really think you should keep Icarus for yourself and give the bride a toaster. Just my $0.02.

Well... look at it this way. At least you won't spend Thanksgiving weekend frantically trying to finish it off.

Don't buy the toaster yet. Maybe she WILL change her mind one more time and call it off totally? I don't want to jinx it, but at least you'd end up with a gorgeous shawl for you to keep.

Wait a minute, are you in the wedding too? Geesh. That is quite a shift in dates isn't it.

If you choose to travel north seeking greener pastures (and some good Canadian fibre) I can make room for you in the backyard. And I got a good laugh about your being good with (other peoples') children.

HOLY CRAPPOLA!

I would seriously consider sending Ic to her now- it be cursed (we're watching Mary Queen of Scotts- can you tell? well except the crappola part)

Send her the shawl today with specific instructions for the gift not to be opened until the shower. I don't want anything to happen to the shawl and knowing that you have a "black hole" is too scary.

You know -- I'm with Sharon on this one! It was so stunning on you in your previous post. Gorgeous work, which can't be taken away from by the fact that the deadline, apparently, was false. Because really, all this could have still happened (if you're like me and still leave it all to the last minute).

unbelievably gorgeous work! are you sure it was your first lace project? I can't get through clue 1 on MS3. I am in awe.

At first, I was afraid you were going to say the wedding was off. At least now you can spend the next month or so without a knitting deadline looming over your head!

hahaha... don't you just love life sometimes?

I agree with Sharon. Keep Icarus & give the bride a toaster. Too funny that the date was changed after you went mental getting Icarus finished.

Damn girl. Well, as least your gift is done and you no longer have to stress over the entire thing.

The Icarus is beautiful. At least you have that. BTW, I tagged you

I just snorted chocolate out my nose. It is funny in the same way some guy taking a face-plant off his skateboard is funny: Not really funny at all, and yet somehow, it IS kinda funny, although it really isn't and you shouldn't be laughing but you can't stop yourself and now you're somewhat hysterical about it?

All that frantic knitting...well, at least it's done?!

It looks so beautiful! And your hair looks great, too!

The knitting goddess is just havin' a little fun with you.

Hey email me, K?

I'm throwing in my vote with Sharon too; the shawl is eye-wateringly beautiful; you look stunning wearing it, and every bride can use a toaster. (Well - I always give a gift basket containing two cups, two pretty napkins, an array of fancy cookies and either teas or expensive coffees or hot chocolate...and a Complete Works of the Brothers Grimm, with instructions for reading aloud to each other. That's very good marriage-glue...)
Bottom line: keep the shawl, you deserve it.

oooo- the curse never ends!!! It's like the Hope diamond....beware....

I'm confused. Have you sent her the shawl? If not - KEEP IT. Go for the toaster. If she's still married in a year, make it an anniversary gift.

who is this crazy bride? sorry, that wasn't nice. at least now when the shower arrives, you'll be all set and relaxed because your beautiful gift has been long finished. wrap that beautiful icarus up now and you'll be all set for december.

Bridezilla! And what's all that about black shoes? Are you in the wedding also? I vote for a toaster with the addition of a nice, hand-knit cover! :p

Hey, I know! Maybe you can see if you can knit another shawl by the new deadline and keep one for yourself! kidding.

Am I an awful person because I laughed at this? Ohhhh brides- they kill me every time. I agree with a previous sentiment- send it now, so if anything happens to it, it's not your fault! (p.s. amazing, beautiful work!)

OMG! Ok, that's it, you're totally keeping that shawl!!!

Oh my stars. Keep the shawl! She sounds a flighty sort anyway, not the type to appreciate the beautiful work in Icarus. Really, that picture says it all: it's yours and was always meant to be. Buy her some Tupperware.

Oh, for crying out loud!! Does the bride know about lace knitting being very, very hard? This is the sort of thing that people should know before they start changing dates all willy-nilly. It should be a rule. Or a law...

I've been the victim of a last minute wedding cancellation. We will not discuss the degree to which this makes one want to demand that the cake not be cancelled and that it be delivered to one's house. Or when one is ever going to wear that stupid (but paid for) bridesmaid's dress in "real life..."

Heh. At least it wasn't moved up, eh? ;) Just look at it this way: it's all finished! You don't have to worry about it any longer. :)
