Close Enough to Taste It

I'm talking about Icarus, of course.

I'm on row 14 of the 4th and final 24-row chart. Almost done, right? It's a cruel, cruel illusion. Although I have only 11 more rows of the chart (including row 14--I can add that high), plus five rows of edging, plus the truly frightening cast-off row, each row is now more than 500 stitches long. I know I've calculated how many hours this should take me, but I've entered some sort of time warp, and I'm not sure I can knit my way out.

So, for distraction on my actual birthday, which was Sunday, we went to the San Diego Zoo. It's one of my favorite places in the world, and I've been hundreds of times. My parents used to take us every weekend when I was a kid, and now I take my kids. A lot. See how enthusiastic they are?

Although the little one really enjoyed hugging the sheep in the petting zoo.

I did put some thought into how I could smuggle one home, but with a husband and two big dogs, the bed is already pretty crowded.

We returned home to my newly-renovated knitting spot.

Isn't it lovely? I'm really pleased with the new slipcovers, and especially with the fact that they are washable! Here's the wide view. I had to shoo the dogs off to get this shot, so look fast, before they jump back up.

That's it - when things settle down I am SO starting to knit some lace. (insert hysterical wild cackling laughter here) The refreshed cozy corner is wonderful - and I've thought about getting me a sheepie too, to gnaw down the front lawn. (I think there are municipal laws, though, spoilsports.) And those children DO look enthusiastic; wait until they're teenagers. You have no idea how expert THEY are at ennui. (PS Happy Birthday, a tad late!)

Well, as I recall, House was good for a whole 5 rows of Icarus last week... don't miss it tonight! Bones is good too... just might net you another 5 rows.

The last time I was at the SD Zoo, I was pregnant. Very. And all I remember are hills. BTW - my 5 yo says, "Look, yarn!" every time he sees sheep.

How exciting, Icarus almost done, renovated spot,... I think the sheep would have been a little overboard, you are right.

The home stretch brings out the obsessive knitter in me (as if that's not there already.) I would like to compliment you on your ability to set a long term knitting plan/goal and make it happen. I so would have abandoned that by now, having no sense of persistence or patience (though it increases with daily knitting) way to go- you're an inspiration!

If you keep on knitting and ignore the space/time warp, progress will be made. The new slipcovers look great. I've got washable slipcovers and they rock.

The slipcovers look perfect! I really like the footstool. It accents the rest nicely. Everytime we talk about going to the Zoo we sing that great Raffi song. It always makes me happy too.
