Keeping My Head Down

After my recent string of knitting disasters, I'm just keeping my head down. I finished a sock:

I'm hoping the Knitting Goddess will accept the kitchenering of the toe as my penance and let me off the hook already. But I doubt it. I had to cast on the second sock four times before I got it right. It's a simple k2, p2 rib, but I tried to cast on with a single circular, and apparently my brain doesn't work that way. I knitted two different mobius cuffs before I gave up and cast on with dpns, then knitted it onto a circular.

I've also accepted the fact that Sligo is not going to fit. I only came to this conclusion after I knitted several more repeats of the lace pattern, so I'm not feeling too bright about that either. I was heading for a 34" chest, and based on my swatch, it wasn't going to grow any with blocking. I was using size 5 needles and the knitting was pretty tight. I couldn't bring myself to actually rip out all that lace, so I pulled out another ball to swatch yet again. It turns out I can get perfect gauge on size 7s--exactly as the pattern recommends. Who'd have thought? And although the fabric is a little looser than I would like, it is acceptable, and probably the only way I'm going to get a sweater that fits. I've cast on (for the third time) and I'm quietly working away, hoping to escape any more unwanted attention from the KG.

Maybe one of you could...oh, I don't know...start knitting without swatching, or buy only exactly as much discontinued yarn as the pattern calls for, or loudly proclaim your disdain for the KG and distract her for me for just a little while. Please?

Dude. What if it's not the KG. What if you've got the shanks?

You realize, don't you, the cause of all of this?

It's the Curse of the Messenger Bag.

I'm so sorry but in a small laughing kind of way.

That Sligo color is brilliant

Gauge with the recommended needles--wtf?!

Well, I'm kinda hoping that you had the KG distracted after she was done messing with the vest I just finished. I'm not inviting her back, but I will wish her away from you. Nice sock btw.

I fear knitting with bright cheery yarn like the Sligo is only going to attract the attention of KG. But in a good way ::crosses fingers for you::

Hey, she sent her trashy cousin, The Felting Fairy, to my house last week, so I really don't want KG at my house for a while...

If I start my YOL shawl, KG will surely come bucketing my way--every time I start it, I get about 1/2 hour to an hour in and have to rip it back out. Seven times and counting. Evidently I am destined NOT to knit silk lace as per the KG. At this point, I am tempted to gift the whole kit to someone who would be able to do it justice. LOVE the sligo btw, what a gorgeous colour!!

You got gauge with the recommended size needles? Wow.

I won't tell you how great it looks because that may draw more attention to it.

ha ha ha - buy as much discontinued yarn as the pattern calls for.

Very sad to hear of your recent floggings by the KG. I don't believe in her. There I hope that helps take the pressure off.

Maybe we should all thank Sarah for throwing herself on the KG grenade for the rest of us, even if she doesn't believe in the KG. After all, that doesn't mean the KG doesn't believe in Sarah! So, thanks, Sarah!

I was having my own issues with the KG last night, so I'm extra glad she'll be looking elsewhere tonight, if I should be brave enough to knit again this soon!

And thanks for the blankie design. It's too cute!

wow, you've been a busy knitter while i've been busy cleaning and napping--only 6 weeks to go until baby time. hope the KG starts smiling your way. i know it's been a rough start, but the sligo looks like it's going to be beautiful and i LOVE how your baby blanket turned out. happy knitting!
