Several of you were horrified at the prospect of knitting 60 inches of lace. I am pretty horrified myself, but in the interests of honesty, please allow me to clarify. The 60 inches I have to knit is a strip of lace only about six inches wide.
It creates the trim for this sweater.
Although, to be fair, I need to knit 60 inches for the body PLUS 12 inches for each sleeve, for a total of 84 inches. For those of you who don't have elementary schoolers and haven't done your twelveses in a while, that's seven feet of lace. I don't care that it's only six inches wide. It's seven feet of lace.
I've called out the big guns for this one.

That's how I keep track of lace, too! Not 240 row lace of course, but for 20 rows or less - those cards are the way to go!
Love that shrug - I'm making Pimlico (from that same book) right now.
Love that one, too!
That is a great idea!! I have never thought of that!
::wipes forehead in relief::
I swear we were seperated at birth (even though we aren't the same age)...I did the same thing for the lace project I am working on!
I typed it out in a document so I can put little tick marks by each one as I complete it. Its still slow going but seems to be doing the trick!
I'm doing six feet of lace as well but its twelve inches wide. I'm betting you will finish before me and have more sanity left too!
it's such a beautiful sweater. you can do it!
Phew! 84x6 inches is doable, I suppose. 84 inches sounds a lot better than seven feet!!!! :o) It will look great when all is done.
I do the index card thing with my lace too.
When I did the Pi shawl a couple of years ago the circumference turned out to be about 22 feet, and it has a sideways lace boarder similar to what you are knitting!
It seemed like it was taking for ever to finish, but it is now my favourite part of the shawl.
Whew! Seeing it now on that sweater really does make a difference! It is going to be beautiful!
Oh, Suzanne, that pattern is gorgeous! I don't know if I could tackle it though: ribbing (ugh) followed by lace which I'm sure I'm worse at than you are. Still, I have a serious case of project envy...
Uh oh, the pink index cards? Katie bar the kitchen door!!!!
