Pining for Fall

It's supposed to reach over 100 degrees today. Naturally, because I cleaned out and replanted my flower beds yesterday. For most of you, that's probably not unusual for summer. But this is San Diego, and we're kind of weather wimps. (You should hear me when the temperature drops below 60 in the winter. It's not pretty.) We've had a really mild summer. It was a perfect 75 for about six weeks straight, but the last two weeks have been hot and humid--also not normal for San Diego, which is technically a desert.

So, like any good knitter, I'm doing my part to bring about a change in the weather by knitting for fall. The Malabrigo "Vino" sweater coat is zipping right along. The body is done. It needs sleeves and a collar.

[One of the many things I love about knit bloggers is that I know you'll never ask me why I'm taking pictures of half-finished knitting projects on my front porch.]

But--and I can't believe I'm saying this--I'm going to run out of yarn.

I haven't run out of yarn on a project since the 1980s (and you've seen the results of that). I always, always buy way too much yarn. I have so many single balls of yarn in the stash that I could easily make a king-sized afghan from my leftovers. But any way I look at it, I'm going to run out this time. This is what I get for knitting from stash. Now I have two options. I can either close my eyes, cover my ears, sing "La la la la" and pretend that I have plenty of yarn, and then act surprised when my yarn runs out half a sleeve from the end, or I can suck it up and order another skein. WEBS has four skeins of it in stock. It would be easy to click over and place the order. Guess which option I'm going to choose? La la la la...

that humidity makes a person crazy-it's been like that here for about 2 weeks. Even when you're used to it, too much is too much. People start behaving badly-as does yarn.

So maybe the humidity screwed up your yarnage (hence it's not the gauge-it's the humidity). No thoughts of shortening-or multi-coloring, eh? Maybe it could be a sleeveless sort of Long Vesty Thing. Ideal when dressing in layers?

One skein?? No. As a punishment for running out you order at least 2. This is my world...

We've had that dreadfully unusual humidity here too. Yuck!

You do know that denial will only get you so far... you better start clicking or opt for 3/4 sleeves.

Any chance you could make it a short sleeve tunic? In any case it is a rich colour.

As for weather, I hear you although we have had a relatively dry summer here, I practically melted in it today.

The color pooling in your sweater looks fabulous, BTW.

I'm just the opposite when I buy yarn--I always think I'm getting enough to finish a project, and I almost always run out. Hmm...

Wait--you do know that by knitting that sweater coat you're actually guaranteeing that fall won't come, right?;)

i'm not usually a purple fan, but i love the colors in your yarn/sweater coat. i'm sure it will be lovely. i'd buy the yarn. this is too gorgeous not to be completed with this yarn. sorry to hear about the heat. it's been gross here too. we tried to go to the pool yesterday, but it was closed. we did the park instead. we were melting. literally. it was not pretty.

For the love of Pete! Please order that yarn before they sell out! I can't sleep or knit in my closet without fretting over that. And that thing ADD said about making winter stay away...I wouldn't mind that so much.

I just popped back in to share your spider entry with my daughter - just as funny the second time around! She says she feels sorry for you btw. Having moved from Chicago to south of San Fran I vowed never ever to complain about the weather - so I can not comment about the little balls of sweat rolling down my back as we sit here doing homework.

You're whipping right through that sweater coat! It's lovely. I find that my knitting does have an influence on the weather. Everytime I finish a pair of socks the weather cools down right away so I can wear them.
