And Then There Were None

Spot (now Fuji) has gone to his forever family. As much as we wanted to keep him, we concluded that having four dogs is treading dangerously close to crazy cat lady territory, and that we would be doing all the dogs a disservice by having so many. He went to a wonderful family of dog lovers who are thrilled to have him, and I am sure he will have a great life with them and his new sister Sophie the Jack Russell terrier.

He is going to be a BIG dog. At ten weeks, he weighs 25 pounds, which is bigger than our Newfie at that age--and she's now 110 pounds. I love this picture of him with mom Heidi for scale:

Heidi is still here. She needs to be spayed and have a broken tooth removed before she can be put up for adoption. She'll be going to the vet next week and then staying with us until she recovers. I have my doubts, though, that she'll ever be leaving. The rest of the family is campaigning hard to have her stay, and we all know my weakness for hard luck dogs.

Is three dogs in a family unreasonable?

Well, I can't speak to the reasonableness of it, but we have three! When I married my husband, he had two, and I had one. Since we believe dogs come to us for life, we have three!

Our house is like a zoo anyway, so why not? Although I haven't gotten an angora bunny because I have too many kids and furbabies to take care of already!

We have three dogs at my house and love every minute of it. For us, three is just right.

Whether three dogs is reasonable depends entirely on your family and the environment you can give the dogs. As long as they all get lots of exercise and love (I have absolutely no qualms about that last one!) and you can afford the vet care and time, then three dogs is not at all unreasonable.

I don't remember if you are attached to your yard and garden -- if you are, you may not like having three dogs. Dogs like to dig, it's part of their nature, although the degree varies dog to dog.

Do you have a really good vacuum cleaner? Cuz you are definitely going to need it with three furry friends. Take it from me, owner of two dogs and two cats, all of them long-haired and very generous with their fur,

Three dogs is reasonable. We have 3 and another maybe next year. Course our oldest dog isn't well and he's old...
But three is a charm for us. We'll always have 3.

As long as the dogs get along, I can't see any problems with three dogs- other than larger vet.bills, larger foodbills and even more time needed for exercising;-)

We have four critters--2 wiener dogs and 2 cats--so I don't think three dogs is bad at all. It must have been hard to say goodbye to Spot, even though he's going to a wonderful home.

glad to hear that spot/fugi found a good home. he was lucky to have you while he did and lucky to have a good permanent home as well. as to keeping his mom, do what you feel is right for you. when i was growing up, we always had at least 2 dogs and often had three--although usually 2 of the 3 were small dogs. enjoy all the wonderful canine love in your house!

Easy for me to say, because we only have one and I wouldn't be the the one with the three dogs in the family.....but I say go for it! Four humans, three dogs? No problem! ;)

I'm so happy for Fuji. :) You need to keep Mama. Three dogs is a goodish amount ... we used to have three dogs. Lots of love to go around. :)
