Where I've Been

Not here, obviously.

If you've noticed the recent dearth of blog posts around here, it's because the end of the school year has slammed into my life with the impact of a freight train, and I'm still trying to get my feet back under me. You wouldn't think something as simple and predictable as school ending would wreak such havoc with life, but I've never been good with changes to my routine. The end of the year brings with it grade emergencies (see the last three posts), irregular school hours, band performances, open houses, volunteer appreciation events, teacher appreciation events, a flurry of birthday parties for kids with summer birthdays, summer day camp sign ups, summer music lesson sign ups, summer sports sign ups, returning and/or retrieving various items that have accumulated at home or at school but belong somewhere else, birthday party planning for my own kid (June 16th), and, inevitably, a tag-team of sick kids who need to stay home from school, supervised by yours truly, who really had other plans.

Oh, yeah, and this:

Admittedly, this is not really end-of-the-school-year related, and, also admittedly, is entirely my own fault. I really ought to know better than to look at the pet ads on craigslist.

His name is O'Malley (don't blame me; he came with it). He is staying with us while the rescue group that took him from death row at a local shelter (he was apparently hit by a car and has a healing broken leg) tries to find him a new home. The family that was originally fostering him had a medical emergency, and he had nowhere to go, so now he's here. I've been busy for the past few days with phone calls and paperwork and a meet-and-greet with my own dog, Sophie, to make sure they'd get along. He arrived here this afternoon.

This is him right now:

And this is Sophie:

I think they'll get along just fine.

Oooooooooohhhhhhh!!! He is so pretty! You should keep him, there is a lovely yin and yang thing going on there.

O'Malley is so pretty! I second the "keep him" idea, although of course I am not the one who would have to walk him and groom him and buy 50-lb. bags of dog food and vet bills.

I think O'Malley is kind of a cool name; it suits him.

Seems like a great dog!

O'Malley is a very nice looking dog. Looks like no trouble at all. I wonder if was name dafter the young Doc in Grey's Anatomy?

I think O'Malley's hair would make a nice sweater! It looks so soft! Man, you definitely know you're a yarn addict when the first thing that pops into your mind when you see someone's dog is how their hair would look spun!

He is gorgeous! And that black and white combination is hard not to keep, don't you think? What a great deed you are doing!

I wish I had room for a dog so I could keep him! He's so pretty, and he does fit in well with your other one. Pets are almost as expensive as kids though...

OMalley is lovely, and so is Sophie!

He's a pretty dog, and it looks like he and Sophie would be great together. Don't you think you should keep him? As a public service, you know. And also think what gorgeous charcoal yarn you could make from him and Sophie combined....ooooh, aaahhh! :-)

(Says the woman with three big black dogs and too many cats...I'm an enabler, I am!)

O'Malley is awesome & so are you for fostering him.. I hae a feeling that he may stay longer. Look at O'Malley smiling and relaxing on your floor. Looks like Sophie & O'Malley are two peas in a pod. I now have that song "Ebony and Ivory" stuck in my head.

What're your plans for the birthday party? I'm thinking next time we're just going to have some kids over and have a MakeYourOwn Taco Bar, then a MakeYourOwn Sundae Bar. Then we'll send them out back to play in the sprinklers (i.e. hose everyone off) and then send them home.

Great dogs! "Ebony and Ivory, snooze together in perfect harmony, Side by side on my family's floorboards, oh lord, why can't we???..."

Ah.. the end of the school year, when teachers wind down and parents wind up and bless those people who are both!

Are you REALLY going to be able to let O'Malley go? You're a stronger woman than I if you do. If a dog as cute as that came to my house and fit in it would be over.

...and that 5element Cracks Me Up.

He IS pretty, that's why my first thought was, that he was a girl. Hi, hi. I guess the dogs are getting along great and look kind of similar, except for the color of fur. You are not planning on spinning up his or her fur now.
