A Rose By Any Other Name

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. They really brightened my day! It's not every day a gal turns 29...uh...30...or did we agree on 35?

And these were also a highlight of the day! Are these not the coolest flowers ever? One of the guests at my little party last night was fellow knitblogger Janet of On The House. She made this bouquet of felted roses just for me!

I love how rich they look, and the soft texture of the felting.

I think the variegated ones are my favorites.

If you want to make some yourself, Janet graciously sent me the link to the pattern on the Berroco website.

I didn't have time for any knitting last night, but I did manage to finish the cast on for Deep Purple (aka Silver Belle) today. This was no mean feat. There are 428 stitches on that needle. I know. I counted them. Many times.

The pattern calls for a 24" circular. I defy anyone to get 428 aran weight stitches on a 24" circular and retain any measure of sanity. I used a 32" and those babies are on there tighter than a tick in a dog's ear. There are 50 stitches crammed between each set of white markers. I'll be moving up to a 40" on the next row.

I really wanted to show you at least one of my recent rescued projects, but it was ninety-freakin'-seven degrees here today and a woolly FOtoshoot was absolutely out of the question. Tomorrow is supposed to be significantly cooler. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. For those of you in places where fall has fallen, could you please send a little cool air this way?

Ah ha, so I've got a handful of years and 5 days on you. My b-day was the 25th. :o)

I'd be more than happy to send you some coolness, the temps haven't gotten above 58 for a couple of days.....sigh...I've run out of the detergent washing winter woolies.

400+ stitch cast on, that is more than just a little bit daunting.

I am ashamed to admit how long it took me to figure out to put in stitch markers when counting 8 billion stitches. It was really tense before!

Good work Janet, the roses are much fun! They are the kinda thing you should always have ready, for knitters ready to celebrate.

You crack me up. I don't think I'd ever get the count right with over 400 stitches.

I'm glad you had a great day and the roses are wonderful - and they'll never die.

I can only imagine counting that many stitches more than one. Ya know becuase you wouldn't want to find out after you knit the whole row that you were off.. Such pretty flowers, and they will last forever!!

Holy cow. over 400 stitches? I am goin crazy with 175. That's what I am decreasing from for my baby blanket.

Happy Belated Birthday and you can have all the cool weather you want from me. I don't like the cold at all....bbbbrrrrrrrrrr!

Wonderful felted roses! KNitting friends are the best kind as far as I'm concerned. Great job Janet. 97 degrees?!? Wow. How the heck could anyone fit over 400 stitiches on a 24inch needle? Impossible.

Those roses are great. Need a model shot? Come on down to Kentucky really quick. We barely made the 68 degree mark yesterday and I had to scramble for a sweater this morning (40s) Brrr. It's getting colder here quick.

Happy Birthday!!! Glad you liked the roses and thanks so very much for teaching me how to knit them over the phone. You may have a new job in the future - 1-800-teach me how to knit.
Age becomes you 'cuz your prettier than ever.

When I left the house this morning, it was 39 degrees outside. I actually put on my wool jacket and one of my wool scarves. Michigan would gladly give you some cold, would you like it sent FedEx or UPS?

wow the roses are so beautiful! and they will never wilt!

i noticed you live in san diego too...can you believe it was 94 degrees yesterday??

thanks for the opulent raglan tips...i'm going to try to match your gauge because i want mine to look like yours...since row gauge is smaller, does that mean you should lengthen the sleeve/bust area so that it won't be too tight around the bust?

Love the flowers! Glad you had a good birthday.

I also love the colour of that yarn. Yummy.

OK, I'll part with a liiiiitttle of our cool air, just because I know you really need it. We havn't gotten over 60 in a while and I've had to scrape ice off my windshield a couple of times already.
