Don't worry - that's small compared to some knitters I know! And sock yarn can be used for more than just socks... how about some shawls to go with your pretty skirts!
How about a giveaway: if Los Pen Academy wins the Pepsi grant, you could share some of the sock yarn love! This way you get everyone who reads your blog to vote for Los Pen every day till April 30. (Did you see you can download a "vote" widget for your blog?)
Its also nice for lace knitting as well. And fingerless gloves too. Not that living in CA you need that but just sayin'...(can you tell I've been looking for other ways to widdle my sock yarn stash down?)
I don't knit socks with sock yarn, but I'm currently knitting a shawl! I have a few skeins of sock yarn from last summer's Sock Summit (I didn't buy them), so I'll ahve to find other alternate projects.
Recent history would indicate that you are, in fact, somewhat of a sock knitter. Besides, sock yarn does make lovely scarves, and shawls, and fingerless mitts, and baby caps, and...and....you get the picture! I'm sure it will all be put to good use.
Sock yarn is a sickness for which there is no cure. It's best just to give in to it. Otherwise, it gets mad and makes you buy even more. That's when sock yarn just arrives at your house with no memory of ordering it.
I don't make socks either and I thought that the 8 or so skeins I'd accumulated were a lot! I did make some baby booties and they weren't bad. Maybe you should give a pair a try? easy ones? lol
Holy mackerel!
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing hysterically here.

ReplyDeleteAs Wandering Cat Studio knows, sock yarn is also great for crackghans.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the collection.
Ahem. I am a sock knitter, you know. Just sayin'... (Although I have a sock yarn stash of roughly the same size as yours; it's not like I need more.)
ReplyDeleteWas all of this purchased after you knit the first pair of socks?

ReplyDeleteLOL! My high school math teacher used to say, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
ReplyDeleteI see mine right on the top of the pile! :P
ReplyDeleteI love sock yarn; can't get enough. Some of my sock stash is slated to become shawls and chemo caps.
I guess that stach really speaks to your blog name! :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! I thought my sock yarn stash was getting out of hand at about ten skeins deep, but I AM a sock knitter. :)

ReplyDeleteOh, but it looks so lovely heaped together there.
ReplyDeleteMaybe socks are in your future?
funny stuff. Tjats bigger than my whole stash!!! I am jealous!
ReplyDeleteIt's like potato chips, you start with 1 or 2 and next thing you know you have eaten a couple handfuls.

ReplyDeleteyou may not be but yarn addiction takes no heed of such technicalities.
ReplyDeleteIt's so lucky you're not a sock knitter. It means you pose no danger to that lovely stash!
