Here We Go Again

Remember this?

This was my ill-fated Autumn Leaves. Great yarn, great pattern, not so great together. Like ketchup and peanut butter. After taking this picture, I buried it at the bottom of a stack of sweaters and moved on. But I find it difficult to accept failure, so I thought I'd try at least fixing the color. I threw it in the dyepot with some brown RIT dye. Oddly, the dye didn't cover the existing color; it just sort of darkened and toned it down. Here's the after:

I think it's...better. Here's a closeup of the new color:

I'm still not sure about the style. I can't decide whether it's sort of cute or really frumpy, like a housecoat.

Any thoughts?

  1. That color is fantastic! I think it could be really cute with some jeans and maybe a camisole type top underneath. Kind of hard to tell from the photos though :)

  2. I think it looks good--the silhouette is very much in style. I'd have to see it on you though!

  3. Definitely much better colour.
I agree with the other posts: hard to tell if it would be stylish or not without seeing it on you.

  4. Amazing color. I'd pay money for it. I don't think it's frumpy- I'm calling it trendy.

  5. The color is much better now, but to see if it's frumpy or not you'd have to model it for us. I think it could go either way, depending on how you fill it out.

  8. I really like the new colour. My own opinion is that textured patterns and multicoloured yarn don't go well together. I think this garment shape and pattern are fine but better done in a plain colourway.

  9. Fascinating how the dye job worked out. Very nice. Like everyone else, hard to tell without seeing it 'live', but I do like the shape in general.

  10. A vast improvement and not frumpy at all. It's wonderful and wearable now that you've done your dye magic.

  11. Not my style at all - can't stand 3/4 length sleeves on anything - but the color is much improved.

  12. I really like what the brown dye did for the color. It toned down that acid green color and I think that has made a huge difference.

I also like the style, I think its adorable. Maybe some kind of cute closure at the top would make it feel more with-the-times to you?

  15. Great colour, but really, I think we need to see it on you. I don't wear things like that very well--they just make me look dorky, but you're tall and lean and it could be perfect on you.
